Introduction to web edition.
The Saor Mor, Tomás Ua hAllmhuráin was a poet from Rineen – between Miltown Malbay and Lahinch, who lived about the end of the 18th and early 19th century.
The introduction in English by Liam O’Luanaigh, Sen. was published in the Ennistymon Christian Brothers School, Anniversary Journal 1824 – 1974 – editor Micheal Mulqueeny and is reproduced here by kind permission of the past and present principals of that school.
The poems and Brollach ( Irish introduction), were first published in Irisleabhar Muighe Nuadhat as follows:
1926:
An Clampar (& an Brollach)
Seán O Tinn
1928:
Ar An Dá Ghormánach
Ar Dheacracha Na nGaedheal
Faoisdin a Bheatha
1929:
Aisling do Chonnarc tre mo Chodhla.

All of these are taken from the manuscript poem book of Micheal O’Raghallaigh, an Ennistymon scribe. (Renehan 69 Maynooth College Library). Two of the items in Irisleabhair are attributed to “A O’D” and this may refer to Antoine O Duibhir who contributed a significant amount of materialto the Iris about that time.
Oidhreacht an Chlair are grateful to an tAthair Pádraig Ó Fiannachta for permission to reproduce these items from Irisleabhar Muighe Nuadhat.
There was an article about Ua hAllmhuráin, entitled Guth na bhFilí by Seosamh Mac Ruaidhrí, in Molua, 1939. It gives no further information on the poet from that in the article by O Looney and in the Brollach.
The final item, Tuiridh Ar Bhás an tSaoir Mhóir was published in Irisleabhair Muighe Nuadhat, 1927 (without attribution ) it comes from Renehan 68. This is a lament for the Saor written by another local poet Séamus Mac Cruitín.
These items were scanned, proofread and prepared for the internet by Donal and Treasa De Barra
